Gentec simple three-wire sound solution: no receiver required 2012-04-gentec-energy-power-bar.gif Gentec Energy Power Bar

Gentec Energy Power Bar

$600

Setting up a home theatre is a complex undertaking, with a typical setup seemingly involving about 250 wires. Gentec has a simple three-wire sound solution: plug one large barshaped speaker directly into your TV, plug in its power cord, and then place the matching wireless subwoofer anywhere in the room and plug it into power as well. That’s about it. No receiver required. The two-way soundbar houses both tweeters and drivers, producing good sound and a lot of power, and the powered subwoofer delivers plenty of bass. At $600, it’s not quite as good as a true 5.1 or 7.1 surround-sound system — you won’t hear the stalking dinosaurs of Jurassic Park actually move behind you — but the quality is impressive and the system takes no more than 10 minutes to set up.
