HP Canada Announces Premiere Sponsorship of the 2008 CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival April 30, 2008
HP to host series of special events at CONTACT including HP Lecture Series and HP Print Centre

MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 29, 2008 – For the fourth consecutive year, HP Canada is pleased to announce that it is the premier sponsor of the 2008 CONTACT Toronto Photography Festival. The world's largest photography festival takes place throughout the month of May. HP will be hosting a number of special events during the Festival, at Red Bull 381 Projects located on Queen Street West in Toronto's entertainment district.

At the Festival, HP is presenting a number of special events and activities, including: the HP Lecture Series, the Portfolio Reviews and Exhibition, and the HP Print Centre. HP will also be printing the festival's high profile public art installations displayed throughout the Greater Toronto Area, including the Gardiner Expressway, the CN Tower and Pearson International Airport.

"Technology continues to make a major impact on the photography market, changing the way we capture and preserve photographic images. Thanks to digital printing, the way in which these images are produced is also undergoing a process of transformation," says Danny Ionescu, Vice President, Graphic Arts, HP Canada. "HP is committed to providing photographers of all skill levels with imaging and printing technology that enables them to get amazing results. When they print with HP, photographers will be assured of image accuracy, fast printing speeds and unvarying colour reproduction."

At the HP Lecture Series, speakers include high-profile photographers from the renowned Magnum Photo Agency, known for their excellence in the field and unrivalled sense of vision, imagination and brilliance in the world of documentary photography. Audiences will have the opportunity to learn about their work from a technical and creative point of view. New for 2008 is the Magnum Panel Discussion, where participating Magnum photographers will discuss various topics affecting the industry and take questions from the audience. The HP Lecture Series will be open to the public courtesy of HP and will take place during the first two weeks in May at Red Bull 381 Projects. For more information on the HP Lecture Series, please visit www.contactphoto.com.

HP is also working with CONTACT on its prestigious Portfolio Reviews program for photography. Over the course of two days, curators, art dealers, directors, publishers and photo editors will provide one-on-one critiques for photographers. Portfolio review participants will receive a print of their work, courtesy of HP, and will be eligible to have their work displayed in the Portfolio Reviews Exhibition: representing the best work seen in all disciplines, including fine art, commercial and documentary photography. Visitors to the Portfolio Reviews Exhibition will be able to vote for their favourite image, which will be awarded the HP Prize for Photography, Viewer's Choice award.

The HP Prizes for Photography will be presented in two categories for Portfolio Review participants. Jury Selected and Viewer's Choice prize winners will take home a prestigious award as well as an HP printer such as the HP Designjet Z3100PS 24-inch photo printer, HP Designjet Z3100 24-inch photo printer, and the HP Photosmart B9180 Photo Printer.

New this year at CONTACT is the Magnum Photography Workshop and Exhibition. Six photographers from the Magnum Photography Agency will provide one-on-one instruction, critiques, discussion, group and field work to registered festival attendees. As part of the Workshop, participants will have an opportunity to print their images using HP technology.

The HP Print Centre will showcase the printing technology behind the images, including the HP Designjet Z3100 and the HP Designjet Z6100 printers. Visitors to the gallery are welcome to bring their digital images on file for printing, courtesy of HP. The HP Print Centre is located at Red Bull 381 Projects and is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays throughout the month of May.

HP is also printing supporting materials for the CONTACT Festival using the HP Indigo 5000 digital press.
