Happy Birthday Kensington security slot January 22, 2007
In the latest issue of Backbone Magazine, we warn of the dire consequences of notebook theft, so now seems to be a good time to wish Kensington a happy 25th birthday.
Kensington's first product was actually 1981's System Saver, a combined cooling fan/surge protector for the Apple II. It apparently sold 200,000 units, but no one remembers it today. Instead, the company is best known for its cable locks, first sold in the early 90s. These little theft deterrents were so successful that today almost all notebooks are equipped witha  Kensington security slot. Kwnsington is now the number one vendor of physical notebook security products, according to the company.
