Sony Ericsson GC 89 PC Card and Caveo Anti-Theft Card

Giving a laptop as a gift? It’s an even better present if it can connect to the Internet from just about anywhere. The GC89 PC Card links a notebook to Rogers’ EDGE cellular network and also to any Wi-Fi network. It works with Windows now and will on Macs soon. The card sells for $349.99 with any data plan from Rogers Wireless.

And now that you’ve shelled out dollars to get the notebook connected, it would suck if it was stolen. The Caveo Anti-Theft card sits in the computer and detects motion, so if someone grabs the notebook while you’re selecting a muffin the card can prevent access to the operating system, implement passwords and encryption keys, or sound an audible alarm. The company is currently looking for a Canadian distributor but the card is available online.
