Can't manage what you can't measure
New corporate emission-measurement tools
| May 27, 2009
By Andrew Terefenko The first step in reducing greenhouse-gas emissions is understanding how much your company produces. That has been very difficult, but a project from EMC and the World Business Council on Sustainable Development will soon deliver tools that will help the assessment process.
The World Resources Institute’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol Product and Supply Chain Initiative will provide a methodology for measuring emissions throughout product value chains and provide guidance on identifying the greatest emission-reduction opportunities and making sustainable business decisions regarding products.
“Companies are looking for ways to reduce the impact on climate change from business and product decisions, but don’t always have the tools they need to make informed decisions,” said David Rich of the World Resources Institute.
Delivery timelines have not been set. More details are available at www.wri.org.
