| The Zen of IP |
May 2, 2005 |
By Karen Sheriff
PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO TRANSCEND TIME AND SPACE.
NOW WITH IP THEY CAN. AND WHILE INTERNET PROTOCOL MAY NOT ANSWER THE ZEN MASTER’S REQUEST TO THE HOT DOG VENDOR—“MAKE ME ONE WITH EVERYTHING!”—FOR COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY, IT COMES PRETTY CLOSE.
OPEN YOUR MIND
Finding “ IP enlightenment” means looking at our networked world differently.
For example, if you learn to “Become One” with your IP connectivity you’ll soon see geography totally disappear.
Sound a bit too Zen for a business discussion?
Well, that really does describe the essence and tremendous value of IP.
How? Well, when you use your IP address to connect to a digital network at any time and from anywhere in the world, that space instantly becomes your own personal and completely functional office.
At your fingertips you’ll find all your files, e-mail, staff and the applications and resources that make you a highly productive business professional when you’re “back home.” And IP also makes another crucial distance disappear—the distance between you and your customers. Now they have the security of calling just one number to immediately connect with you, whenever and wherever you want them to, whether you’re in Toronto or Tokyo. So in today’s highly competitive and totally mobile marketplace, IP’s “bits and bytes” will replace “bricks and mortar” as your prime business location.
ACCEPT AFFORD ABLE IP And the Zen of IP also means rethinking just what an Internet connection can provide to a dynamic enterprise. Wireline or wireless IP access will become your company’s high-speed route to a wealth of powerful applications and network resources. In the near future all of the spreadsheets, word processing, e-mail and data applications which power your business won’t be run off of that little grey computer box that’s under your desk or down the hall. Now those vital programs and many innovative new products and services will be automatically managed, continuously updated and maintained for you—on your provider’s rock-solid servers. For the user, that’s when any distinction between IP connectivity and those vital digital tools that drive the company
will virtually disappear.
Making applications “one” with connectivity has many other advantages.
You get up-to-the-nano-second virus and security protection and each organization has the freedom and flexibility to adjust elements like bandwidth and service levels to keep everyone functioning at peak efficiency. You can get a strong Internet presence and economy of scale by splitting the resources of a single server between several companies with shared hosting.
Power users who need capacity, strength and complete management support can find the right solution with dedicated hosting that puts their own server to work just for them.
FIND A GOOD FIT
But the Zen of IP doesn’t stop there.
Many new value added services are being offered that will seamlessly conform to the needs of different business verticals. For example, soon medical, legal, realty, hotel and travel companies can have their Web site hosting tremendously enhanced with customized and continuously refined and specialized applications. These programs intuitively answer industry-specific needs and help streamline processes unique to different marketplaces.
Now your company’s business applications will think like you do, work like you do, organize like you do — and compete ike you do. In short, they will “Become One” with you and your business.
Connect with a strong network provider today, one which can become your technology “guru” and start your company on its path to “ IP Enlightenment”.

Where did I put that darn headset?
Cardo S-800
Bluetooth headsets are very useful - until you misplace them. When you lose the attractive little S-800, you use your phone to signal the headset to start buzzing.
