Canadians regularly rely on social media for day-to-day information By Peter Wolchak
A recent study from CNW Group and Leger Marketing asked 1,500 Canadian consumers about issues ranging from how often they use online communications tools to how social media influences purchasing decisions. Key results include:
> 49 per cent of consumer social media users employ social media at least once a day; growth rate is 48 per cent year-over-year
> 61 per cent of users turn to social media when researching purchases
> 31 per cent of users agree that social media is more credible than advertising
> 63 per cent of consumers rely on social media to keep up-to-date on news and information; 40 per cent are using it to engage with organizations
> Facebook is the most popular social media space for consumer social media users (77 per cent), followed by YouTube (65 per cent) and MySpace (20 per cent)
> 42 per cent of users who are 45 years and older are likely to use online channels to research products. This is significantly more than among younger users.
