Guests with the munchies at the Ambassador Conference Resort in Kingston, Ont., can use either a cellphone or their room cardkeys to buy snacks and drinks from hotel vending machines.
The implementation, created with partners Coca Cola, Bell Canada and Facility cStar Technologies, was the first in Canada to combine mobile phone and cardkey technologies over a wireless network at the same time, according to the resort. Using a cellphone, customers dial the number listed on the machine and make a product selection. Charges appear on the hotel invoice at checkout.
