1. Get a smartphone. The world is going mobile and you are being left behind. There is now literally an app for everything, but if you’re working with only a PC, you can’t take advantage of these innovations.

2. Get to know Android. Android is a software stack that includes an operating system, middleware and key applications, and it is overtaking Apple. It’s open source, which means anyone can build apps for it, it’s supported by tech heavyweight Google, and it boasts quick load times and high adoption rates.

3. Upgrade to Android 2.3. This new platform, out in early 2011 on Google’s Nexus phone, takes gaming to the next level, increases multimedia capabilities and introduces new forms of communication, such as scanning technology.

4. Get into the tablet game. Skip right over the first generation iPads and Galaxy Tabs and opt instead for the second generation of tablets due in 2011. You can expect new releases from Apple and Samsung, plus Windows 7 tablets. All the kinks will be worked out and maybe they’ll even be cheaper.

5. Hold 3D in your hand.
The first handheld 3D gaming system, the Nintendo 3DS, launches in June.

6. Spend less time with your phone with Windows Phone 7. This new platform makes it easier to get quick updates, and new apps are on their way for this up-and-coming OS.

7. Take video of your adventures. The Go Pro wearable video camera is waterproof and shockproof, offers 60 frames per second and sports a super-wide lens.

8. Build your own 3D theatre. Stop paying extra to see 3D movies and don’t waste your money on a finicky 3D TV. Set up two projectors with polarized lens covers and use polarized glasses. There are plenty of online videos to guide you through the building process.
