Spam decreased 30 per cent in Q4 2010, according to anti-spam vendor Commtouch. The company points to the closure of aptly named Spamit around the end of September as one important factor; it reportedly generated a fair percentage of the world's pharmacy spam.
While there was a large amount of pre-Christmas spam, this is “something of a tradition,” Commtouch said, and even then the outbreak was smaller than usual.
But don’t get too happy, the company warned: spam levels have decreased in the past only to return to even higher levels within short periods.
