Seen as green: Some good news for Toyota

Toyota had a bad January: it had to stall the assembly lines that churned out its most popular cars and recall millions of vehicles already on the road. But January also brought at least some good news for Toyota: consumers think of it, along with Ford, as the greenest manufacturers overall. When asked by TNS Canadian Facts, consumers identified Toyota and Ford as companies most associated with hybrid and bio-fuel powered vehicles.

Honda was also noted in the hybrid market, with Chevrolet/GM also being singled out in the bio fuel category. Toyota, Chevy, Honda and Ford were all in close contention in market perceptions of fully electric vehicles.

The TNS Automotive Eco-Friendly Technology study also shows interest in alternate-fuel technologies has been building slowly: the level of firm commitment to hybrid technologies among buyers is currently at 23 per cent, compared to 17 per cent in 2006.
