Reduce unnecessary lighting: turn off lights in areas that receive sufficient natural light, and repaint interiors in a light colour to increase reflection. Consider motion-detector switches in low-traffic areas like bathrooms.
Optimize heating and cooling: use a programmable thermostat to keep your office at 21°C (70°F) when occupied or 16°C (61°F) when unoccupied during the winter, and at 24°C (75°F) when occupied during the summer.
Get recycling: investigate local recycling or salvage options. Staples/Business Depot, for example, collects used ink and toner cartridges.
Buy locally: resources such as www.greeninggreatertoronto.ca may help you find nearby sources for products.
Mobilize your people: provide financial incentives to employees who use public transit or carpooling.
