Funding programs to support EMR adoption have been available in Canada for almost 10 years. However, these programs were never intended to fund EMRs indefinitely.
The concept was that once a critical mass of physicians had adopted an EMR, there would be sufficient momentum and value for others to purchase a system. With a number of provincial funding programs nearing the end of their current negotiated mandate, funding is still available, but for how long? What is the value proposition if you miss the funding opportunities or decide not to participate?
Should you...
- Pay for it yourself using practice cash flow?
- Take advantage of provincial funding (if available in your province)?
- Lease or finance through a bank or third-party source?
