I've completed gathering data for my Foursquare study, so now I'm trying to find some interesting conclusions. From this research, I have put together a list of various activities that users are doing on Foursquare.
(The list is in alphabetical order as I did not want to imply any sort of hierarchy or frequency.)
- Achieve sense of vindication or justice
- Advise or warn others
- Communicate or coordinate with friends
- Compare socially (to friends and/or to community)
- Compete against friends and/or strangers
- Connect with new people
- Entertain or distract self
- Express thoughts or experiences
- Find deals
- Find location by type (e.g. a suitable restaurant)
- Find specific location
- Find specific location details
- Inform decision-making / Receive recommendations
- Learn about people or places
- Maintain relationships
- Mine data for business
- Project status / Perform identity
- Promote business or self
- Receive recognition
- Record personal history
- Satisfy curiosity
- Speak out or advocate (e.g. for an issue)
- Understand the application (for novelty or business)
