Pat Rich - Sept 3, 2009 - The CMA's new president, Saskatoon FP Anne Doig, would like to see all Canadian physicians using electronic medical records (EMRs) by 2011.
IT related resolutions at the annual meeting included the following:
•Join provincial and territorial associations in working with governments to develop effective and stringent requirements for the protection, privacy and security of personal health information, with a goal of implementing them within one year;
•advocate to make e-prescribing the main prescription method by 2012;
•Call for the development of a patient bill of health information rights;
•Demand that governments recognize that the flow of information from the patient record to the electronic health record is the professional responsibility of physicians.
