China says $41 billion to be spent on 3G  |  January 2, 2009  

Even in these tough financial times, some industries are going to require investments. If the Chinese invest $41 billion on their wireless network, the entire world should benefit from the research improvements that this should fund.

It's too bad they're going to use three different protocols (China mobile - TD-SCDMA, Unicoms - WCDMA, China Telecom - CDMA 2000), but the diversity of approach may allow greater advancement.
